EPA claims one million (most probable) fecal coliform (E.coli) bacteria is safe for direct human contact
without any warning. There is no warning about viable, but nonculturable infectious disease agent.s
part 503.32(a)(3) Class A—Alternative 1. (i) Either the density of fecal coliform in the sewage sludge shall be
less than 1000 Most Probable Number per gram of total solids (dry weight basis),
EPA claims two billion (most probable) fecal coliform bacteria is safe for farmers, without any warning.
part 503.32 (b)(2)(ii) The geometric mean [seven samples] of the density of fecal coliform in the samples
collected in paragraph (b)(2)(i) of this section shall be less than either 2,000,000 Most Probable Number per
gram of total solids (dry weight basis) or 2,000,000 Colony Forming Units per gram of total solids (dry weight
basis)
503.9(t) Pollutant is ----- a pathogenic organism that, after discharge and upon exposure, ingestion, inhalation, or
assimilation into an organism either directly from the environment or indirectly by ingestion through the food chain,
could, on the basis of information available to the Administrator of EPA, cause death, disease, behavioral abnormalities,
